![]() And with it you still have to use it well. Same for magic, without it you are at a huge disadvantage. Such things just can't happen in other total wars. That's the difficulty variety adds, do you go for an army build that is good vs everything or specialized because you are about to fight a faction with lots of monsters for example. In other total wars without the unit variety you can do quite a lot with your troops, but if in warhammer an enemy comes with a full army of monsters and you don't have the right tools you lose by default, no matter how good your skill is. What makes defending trade routes more difficult than defending any other settlement? What total war has better siege AI? With a half decent army you can win anything in any total war game, but in warhammer it completely depends against what faction it is. It sure is based on my preferences of course but also on lots of hours in every total war game since med 2. ![]() In fact you have more options in warhammer than just painting the map with constant expansions as the faction variety allows for many playstyles. Have you played the warhammer games? Cause I feel like in charge of my faction like with any other total war. It's basically the same with a few missing options. Don't see how diplomacy is much deeper in other total wars. There are also no certain campaign skills to be aware off, where as in warhammer if you are not careful sieging say Tomb Kings or Skaven, half your army can be wiped out by abilities.īasically my point is you have to be aware of many more things in warhammer than in other total war titles making it more difficult/challenging. Sieges are simpler for sure, but that actually helps the AI, so it makes winning them harder than in other total wars where towers don't have unlimited range. Army compositions are way more complex simply based on the huge amount of unit variety and troop types while in other total wars you can usually be sure that a spear unit will kill a cav unit unless they get flanked. There are simply more mechanics in warhammer and I don't see how they are simpler than in any other total war game, care to explain? The magic system alone is more complex than most total wars have to offer. That's why I went for content instead of difficulty since the difficulty is more subjective. I play them since med 2 and with it's AI once you learn the mechanics there is really nothing to stop you. I don't find any total war games difficult. Lord skill trees playing a bigger role, so much that you can do with magic and certain item combos. ![]() The other thing is that generic advice doesn't work that well, can't just say spears vs cav always win for example, as there are a gazillion exceptions. Same with how WRE in Attila is said to be so hard, but once you realize that you start out with an already big empire you can consolidate and have a super easy and comfortable campaign.Īny particular mechanics on your mind? I just think that warhammer has too much stuff from a newbies point of view - while I could more easily give some quick advice for someone starting out with shogun 2 than I could for warhammer. Sure realm divide is a challenge but it happens pretty late, where you are already a powerhouse and can only be surprised once by it. Not that many mechanics to learn and if you know a few things you can do well with every shogun 2 factions. You can easily win shogun 2 by using ashigaru well and securing sea trade routes.
